Tower Hamlets Green Party have selected their candidates for the parliamentary constituencies of Bethnal Green and Bow and Poplar and Limehouse. Alistair Polson will stand once again in Bethnal Green and Bow and Bethan Lant will stand in Poplar and Limehouse.
Alistair came third in Bethnal Green and Bow in 2015 and quadrupled the Green vote after doing great work to convince voters that he would be a strong voice for residents. Alistair’s main campaigning issues are to restore funding to the health service, build social housing, fight killer air quality, restore student fee grants.
He is a criminal defence barrister working from a human rights barristers’ chambers in London. Before that he worked for the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament both unpaid and paid. He is a school governor for Olga Primary School in Bow and has campaigned on a large number of local issues.
Bethan has lived in Tower Hamlets for 14 years and has been a member of the Green Party since 2013.
A law graduate with an MA in Human Rights, Bethan is committed to social justice and works for an organisation helping vulnerable migrants in the UK. She is a former management committee member of London Citizens and the Jesuit Refugee Service and has been active in many campaigns including migrant issues, the living wage, and affordable housing. Bethan was involved in the organisation of an exhibition of East End Women's history in response to the opening of the controversial Jack the Ripper Museum.
Bethan has two children and enjoys reading, running and exploring local history.
