The Green Party saw record support across East London in the May elections for the Greater London Authority and London Mayor.
Nearly 200,000 people across London voted for Siân Berry as their first preference for Mayor. On the London-wide list, we sent a new Green Assembly Member, Zack Polanski, to City Hall to hold Mayor Sadiq Kahn to account and push for transformative Green policies.
In City and East, our candidate managed to grow our vote share to nearly 12%. Over 25,000 people cast their vote for improved air quality, a new approach to housing and real action on the Climate Emergency. In Bow West and other wards where we have been working hard we even saw the Greens in second place behind Labour.
We could not have achieved this fantastic result without your hard work, whether volunteering, leafletting, spreading the word on social media or turning out to vote on the day – thank you so much for all of your dedication. You have shown that a Green future is possible.
We are now turning our attention towards the local elections in May 2022. Want to get involved in campaigning? Keep an eye out for ways you can help, or get in touch with our local party officers.
