Have you ever thought that Bow looks a bit messy? You wouldn’t be the only one! We often hear from residents who tell us there is too much litter in their area. Fly-tipping of items like mattresses and furniture is also a common sight.
A clean, tidy neighbourhood supports mental health, reduces vermin and avoids contaminating our green spaces. Your local Green Party campaigners, Nathalie Bienfait and Alistair Polson, are doing their bit to ensure Bow is a nice place to live.
Monthly Litter-Picks
At the beginning of November, Nathalie organised a litter pick along Old Ford Road, Hewlett Road and Hitchin Square. She was joined by other local Green Party volunteers and together they picked up a lot of rubbish in just a few hours.
They cleared up a particularly forgotten area around Hitchin Square which was full of plastic waste from a neighbouring building site.
They also collected over 40 Nitrous Oxide (N2O) canisters which can be seen all over Tower Hamlets.
Want to get involved? Nathalie is holding regular litter picks on the first Saturday of the month 11am – 12noon. Get in touch by emailing office@towerhamlets.greenparty.org.uk to join in.
Fly-tipping reports
Alistair and Nathalie have also been keeping on top of fly-tipping in the area by making ‘rubbish reports’. The council’s website and mobile app ‘Love Your Neighbourhood’ allows residents to easily report fly-tipping in their area.
Nathalie and Alistair this month made over 40 of these reports.
