While the country may have been taken by surprise when Rishi Sunak called a General Election for 4th July, we are ready to put the case for a fairer, greener society with our dedicated and hard-working candidates.
Nathalie Bienfait barely needs an introduction. The first-ever Green Councillor in Tower Hamlets, Nathalie has proved a popular and well-respected figure, committed to listening to residents and holding the ruling Aspire Party to account. This includes her recent appointment to Scrutiny Lead for Environment & Climate Emergency.
Nathalie told us that she is “looking forward to standing up for social, racial and environmental justice in Poplar & Limehouse and across the country, and ensuring that whoever is elected is as bold and radical as they need to be to turn this country around after 14 years of Tory failures.”
Regrettably, our previous candidate for Bethnal Green and Stepney, Elizabeth Waight, had to step down. We would like to extend our thanks for the immense amount of work she put into her candidacy and for the huge contribution she has made – and will no doubt continue to make – to our local community. The constituency will now be contested by Phoebe Gill.
Phoebe brings considerable experience and campaigning skills from her time as an activist and candidate in Enfield. Now living and working in Tower Hamlets, she says, “In everything from the environment and economy to refugees and LGBTQIA+ rights, we offer radically common-sense solutions to issues where the other parties fall short. It is a great responsibility to champion Green policies as a general election candidate, one I believe I have a record of doing justice to.”
You can contact Nathalie at nathalie.bienfait@towerhamlets.greenparty.org.uk and Phoebe at bethnal.green.stepney@votegreen.uk.
This is the first General Election since constituency boundaries changed, and for the first time, we have a cross-borough seat; Joe Hudson-Small, a Stratford resident and Newham Green Party activist, is the Green candidate for the new constituency of Stratford and Bow.
Please help by donating to the crowdfunder for a General Election leaflet for the Stratford and Bow constituency. There are three Green councillors in this new constituency including Nathalie in Bow West, so we really can make an impact: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/general-election-2024—stratford-and-bow
Never has the Green message been more urgent: for our broken and unequal society here in the UK, for the UK’s role on the international stage, and for a realistic approach to the global challenge of climate change. Green voices are essential, and with these committed and talented candidates, we look forward to taking our message to voters.
