Councillor Nathalie Bienfait on behalf of Tower Hamlets Greens expressed the party’s support for the pupils, parents and staff of Kobi Nazrul Primary School. The children had been made a target for racists by an article in the Daily Mail which was praised by the convicted criminal Tommy Robinson. Underneath the online version of the piece were almost two thousand racist comments, exactly the sort of response its authors wanted.
Councillor Bienfait said “people have been coming to this part of Britain for more than two thousand years and Tower Hamlets’s diversity is what makes it such a great place to live and work.
Neither Tommy Robinson nor the Daily Mail will ever make us turn against our neighbours.
We are fortunate to have wonderful schools where every child is made welcome, irrespective of the language they speak at home or ethnic background and we are incredibly grateful to the staff of Kobi Nazrul and all the borough’s schools for the work that they do.
While the three largest parties are all chasing the votes of people who are willing to abuse migrants, the Green Party believes that our communities are enriched by welcoming people from all over the world, and we will always stand in solidarity with the targets of racism.”
